Hiring – Executive Director

Faith in Action is excited to announce an opening for an Executive Director. Faith in Action’s mission is to help older adults maintain their independence, dignity, and quality of life by connecting them with volunteer transportation to medical appointments and grocery shopping.

This leadership position is 34 hours per week with a starting salary of $55,000, which is negotiable. The Executive Director plays a vital role in leading the organization. Please note that this is an on-site position. Regular in-person presence is required to effectively lead the office team and support volunteers. The ideal candidate adjusts quickly to different work situations, remains composed under pressure and in stressful situations, and embraces change, seeing it as an opportunity for growth.

Executive Director – Job Description

Title: Executive Director

Location: 600 E. Willow Street, Suite, 201, Normal IL 61761

Reports to: Board of Directors

Hours: 34 hours per week

Job Summary

The Director is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight to advance the organization’s mission and goals. This role works collaboratively with staff, volunteers, faith communities, community organizations, and other key stakeholders to build strong partnerships and foster community engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Operations and Personnel Management
  • Recruits, hires, onboards, trains, supervises, and retains qualified staff members to support the organization’s mission and strategic objectives.
  • Fosters a positive, collaborative, and accountable work environment that encourages employee engagement, professional growth, and continuous learning.
  • Conducts regular performance coaching and completes the annual performance evaluations for each team member, ensuring goals, expectations, and developmental opportunities are clearly documented.
  • Meets with each employee at least annually and more frequently as needed to review performance, discuss progress toward goals, identify professional development needs, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Provides direct supervision to the Office Manager, Development Coordinator, Care Receiver Coordinator, Volunteer Coordinator, and Community and Volunteer Liaison.
  • Reviews the employee handbook at least annually and recommends updates or policy changes to the Executive Committee. Communicate and administer approved policies and procedures to volunteers.
  • Ensures the organization maintains effective and efficient operational systems by regularly evaluating technology, software, office equipment and facility needs.
  • Leads the team and oversees volunteer recruitment, training, engagement, and recognition efforts, including volunteer appreciation events and activities
  • Ensures the development, maintenance, and regular updating of operational procedures, work instructions, and standard operating procedures for key organizational functions-including events, fundraising activities, office operations, and volunteer management-to promote continuity, consistency, efficiency, and effective knowledge transfer during staff and volunteer transitions.
  • Implements succession and continuity planning practices to minimize disruption during staff or volunteer transitions and ensure uninterrupted delivery of services and programs.
  • Monitors organizational operations and administrative processes to promote efficiency, compliance, accountability, and alignment with organizational goals.
Strategic:
  • Develops an annual Strategic Plan which establishes short- and long-term goals to achieve the Faith in Action mission. Presents plan to the FIA Board of Directors’ executive committee for discussion, review, and recommendation for full board approval.
  • Plans, organizes, staffs, directs, and evaluates ongoing program activities to meet strategic goals. Periodically reports progress, as requested, by the executive committee and/or board.
  • Monitors trends, legislation and regulations that are relevant to the program’s mission and makes program and advocacy recommendations to the board, as necessary.
Financial:
  • Develops an annual budget in collaboration with the board treasurer and presents it to the executive committee for discussion, review, and recommendation to the full board.
  • Manages fiscal operations and authorizes expenditure according to the procedures outlined in the organization’s by-laws.
  • Monitors the program’s financial health and makes recommendations to the executive committee and board of directors.
  • Develops an annual fundraising plan with specific activities (local and community grants, mail appeals, events, etc.) and timelines for achieving established financial goals. Presents plan to the executive committee for review, discussion, and recommendation to the full board.
Marketing/Public Relations:
  • Develops an annual marketing plan with specific public relations, communication, and marketing strategies to increase community awareness of FIA. Presents plan to the executive committee for discussion, review, and recommendation to the full board.
  • Collaborates with community groups (religious and faith communities, ethnic/cultural, health and human service providers, business, education and neighborhood groups) to establish and strengthen these working partnerships.
  • Attends senior support organizations events and civic events to increase Faith in Action’s presence in the community as well as to identify and implement new and innovative ideas to further Faith in Action’s mission.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher)
  • Management Experience
  • Experience working with non-profit organizations (preferred)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Passion for the Mission of FIA
