Andi Grimes – August 2018 Volunteer

ANDI GRIMES… AUGUST VOLUNTEER IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Robin randomly chooses a volunteer each month to feature.  This month is Andi (Andrea Grimes).  She runs the Faith in Action eBay store for us and for that we thank her over and over!

When did you became a volunteer for FIA and what volunteer positions did you do?

I started volunteering at the Transportation Desk in January 2016 when I was a stay-at-home mom.  I did that until March of 2017 when I started my full-time job.  At that time, Polly and I opened up the FIA Ebay store.  Now, I list and ship items that have been donated to FIA.

Why did you come to FIA?

FIA was featured at Calvary United Methodist one morning.  I couldn’t imagine a better organization to give a tithe of my time to.

Who referred you?   What got you to contact us?

I contacted the office and mentioned that I would like to volunteer, but was afraid to commit to driving since I could have kids wake up sick the morning I’m supposed to drive.  The office mentioned the Transportation Desk.  It was a great fit!

Were you looking?

I was looking to volunteer somewhere else after volunteering at Westminster for a couple of years running a knitting and quilting group.

Words of Wisdom on life:

I try to give a tithe of my time, talent, money, and spiritual gifts.

Have you lived in the area long? … Places you have lived?

My family has lived in Bloomington for 20 years.  My husband and I were each other’s first date in our freshman year in high school – we’ve never even been on a date with anyone else.  : )  I grew up in Tennessee and moved to Indiana for high school.

Where did you go to school?

I graduated from Greencastle High and Indiana State University.

Jobs/ Careers?

I worked as a Commercial Underwriter at State Farm for 8 years before having kids and staying home.  I now work at COUNTRY Financial in Compliance.  Go GREEN!!

Hobbies/ past times/ passions

I quilt every day.  I knit when ever I’m on the go.  I belong to Bloomington’s quilt guild, Hands All Around Quilt Guild.  I’ve been a member of the guild for 15 years.

Family/ Pets

2 kids (7th & 3rd grade), 2 Ragdoll cats, and my hubby!

What else would you like to tell us?

I love volunteering for FIA.  I participated in making survey calls to our care receivers a few years ago.  Talking directly to our receivers about what FIA does and means to them way eye-opening to me.  FIA fills a real life-saving need in our community.
