Down Memory Lane: The Linda Bollivar Years

When Bobbi Hynes moved on from Faith in Action to become Director of Volunteers at OSF St Joseph Hospital, a community-wide search began for her replacement.  Over 30 applicants were eager to work with this start-up service organization.  Although not as well-known as some applicants, Linda Bollivar stood out for her enthusiasm, the joy that glowed from her face and her willingness to do whatever it took to help this young organization continue to grow and flourish.  When asked what attracted her to Faith in Action, she replied, “helping seniors and working with many different faiths to put their faith into action.”

During her brief 3-year tenure, Linda helped FIA move forward.  With volunteer Pollyanna Lopez-Spears’ help, an internet-based ride selection program was chosen – the RideScheduler software is still in use today.  Prior to this, the process was all manual!  RideScheduler improved on the old system and afforded volunteers the opportunity to choose rides which best fit their schedules.  It was a win-win for all.

Linda was also challenged with finding a new home for FIA.  From the beginning, Second Presbyterian Church donated space at 410 N Prairie St, Bloomington (including utilities).  This donation saved FIA thousands of dollars over the years.  Unfortunately, the crumbling building was cost prohibitive to repair.  Just to tear it down would cost $1,000,000.  Our search led us to 705 E Lincoln in Normal.  FIA’s office there included a common meeting area and a kitchen!  Now, what to fill it with?  Through LinkedIn, Linda connected with a fellow parishioner who worked for an office furnishings store.  From this connection, Linda secured the donation of most of FIA’s furnishings – desks, chairs and office items we still use today.
