Lynda A, September 2020 Volunteer Spotlight

Faith in Action is excited to introduce Lynda as the new Volunteer Care Receiver Coordinator. As the VCRC, Lynda will routinely contact the FIA care receivers and, as needed, update their services. Thank you Lynda.

Volunteering seemed a small way to give back to God and our community for the many blessings I have been given. After I retired in 2017, I wanted to be more involved in my parish as well as several community groups. I was somewhat familiar with Faith in Action, since my father, prior to his passing, had been a care receiver. I have enjoyed many friendships with FIA care receivers and also my fellow volunteers. It is always gratifying when you realize just how helpful the FIA volunteers are to the well-being of those we help. This is accomplished by little acts of kindness, such as driving to and from medical appointments, grocery shopping, or even a friendly visit accompanied by a smile. All this is at no cost to the care receiver. After completing my orientation, I started by volunteering as a driver. I also started volunteering at the Transportation Desk – answering phones and scheduling ride requests. Recently I was asked to be the Volunteer Coordinator for Care Receivers. Part of my responsibilities will be to call each of our 493 care receivers to check on their needs and well being. I work in tandem with Marilyn M. who is the Volunteer Assessment Coordinator. My husband, Tim, is also a FIA driver and a friendly visitor. There are many ways to volunteer with Faith in Action. If you are looking for a way to give back, contact FIA at 309-827-7780.
