Vickie

My name is Vickie and I’m 71 years young. I’ve lived in Bloomington all my life and even though I have some family in the area, it is hard to get them to accompany me to all my medical appointments. They have jobs and my daughter has her own business which is difficult to step away from during working hours.

I’ve used Faith in Action services for the past five years, and oh my goodness, it’s just marvelous! It would have cost me a fortune to use a cab to get me to all my doctor and dental appointments. I call Faith in Action and my volunteer driver – Susan or Sherry or Audra or sometimes a new face – is always on time and always friendly. Each volunteer I’ve talked to is welcoming and takes the time to talk to me about my day and my family.

I also signed up for FIA’s Friendly Phone Call program. I receive a call twice a month from a volunteer. While I’ve had a few different friends reach out through FIA, I currently talk to Elsie. We enjoy talking about our families and cooking. She’s even shared a few recipes with me! She’s a sweet lady.

Faith in Action has also helped me keep up with my yard. They sent Mike over to rake my yard last fall and the summer before that Mike came and tilled my garden. What a blessing!

I also really appreciate the FIA Christmas Stocking Program. I receive a stocking each year and really appreciate the thoughtfulness behind this gesture.

If not for FIA, I would have had to move into a nursing home. Hands down, I’d say Faith in Action is the best volunteer service around. The volunteers are there because they want to help others. Even during the pandemic, rides to medical appointments were ongoing.

I heard on local radio station WJBC a caller who was retired and looking to volunteer at a local agency. I was the first caller in, and I said, “If you’re going to volunteer, go to Faith in Action. You can’t go wrong!”
