Jackie Beer – April 2019 Volunteer

When did you become a volunteer for FIA, and what volunteer positions have you chosen to do?
Volunteered with FIA since its inception.  Positions: driven for medical appointments and shoppers, worked in the office, Volunteer Committee, Gala Committee, and, currently, one of the liaisons for my parish, Epiphany Catholic Church.

What brought you to FIA?
I was an empty nester at the time and was looking for a new volunteer opportunity.

Who referred you?  What got you to contact us?
Our church bulletin had an article about FIA.  Attended an informational meeting led by Bobbi Hynes, the Director at the time.

Had you been looking for an opportunity to volunteer?
Yes

Any “Words of Wisdom” for us?
An unexpected benefit of volunteering with FIA is that my listening skills have improved.  There are so many wonderful seniors out there that have lived amazing and, sometimes, not so easy lives.  Hearing their stories brings a new perspective to my day.

Have you lived in the area long? Other places you have lived?
Been in B/N all of my adult life.  Originally from Wenona, IL which is about 45 miles north of B/N.

Where did you go to school?
Illinois State University BA Science – Accounting

Jobs/ Careers?
Controller for Lowell Supply Company.  For townies, they owned Adolph’s Discount Store and Lowell Jewelers.  Various accounting positions at GTE/Verizon.

Hobbies/ Past times/ Passions?
Play the piano, Redbird athletics, and last, but not least, spoil my grandkids with time.

Family/ Pets?
My husband Dave and I have two daughters.  We are blessed that they and their families live in B/N and we can be a part of their everyday lives.

Anything else you’d like to share?
One reason I volunteer is selfish.  I want FIA to be around when I may need their services.❤❤❤
