Volunteer Spotlight – Phyllis Tischhauser

Phyllis Tischhauser has been volunteering for Faith in Action for about 10 years. She is a medical transportation driver and saw the need for FIA after seeing her parents’ struggles. Phyllis said, “Having aging parents I know how much assistance they need. I thought about those who do not have people to help them live independently and felt that this is where I could make a difference.” Phyllis believes in helping seniors live independently as long as possible and enjoys chatting with the care receiver during rides. Describing her experiences she said, “I enjoy just talking to the receiver. They are thankful and they seem to enjoy the company during the short ride.” Phyllis is retired after teaching at Metcalf Laboratory School and attends St. John’s Lutheran Church. Phyllis enjoys staying active and takes daily exercise classes, golfs (in the warmer weather), and travels to spend time with her grandkids.
