Volunteer Spotlight – Ron Ulmer

Ron Ulmer started volunteering at Faith in Action in the spring of 2020. He said, “On the first ride I give someone, I ask have you lived in BN all your life? They open up and share much of their life story. Their response provides me with information for me to relate to them and ask follow-up questions regarding their life. Being a FIA driver is the most rewarding and enjoyable volunteer service I have done.” As a volunteer medical driver, Ron is often able to form friendships with those he drives and loves meeting new people. Now a retiree, Ron served his country as a Microwave Radio operator and repairman in the US Army for three years. He later taught Economics at ISU and at Millikin in Decatur. He also worked at Ameren’s predecessor Illinois Power, and was a landlord in Normal. Ron attends Grace Church in Normal and is a self-proclaimed railroad buff and loves visiting undisturbed prairieland. When he is not driving for Faith in Action, you might find Ron performing standup comedy at a local coffee house or church social!
