Sherri Christensen – May 2020 Volunteer Spotlight

When did you become a volunteer for FIA, and what volunteer positions have you chosen to do?

I believe I did the orientation in late Summer of 2014.  I started giving rides to medical appointments right after that.  I’m still giving rides to medical appointments.

What brought you to FIA?

My husband and I were new to the area and I had some extra time. I wanted to volunteer and get involved in the community.

Who referred you?  What got you to contact us?

I wasn’t referred because I was so new to the area and didn’t know anyone.  I searched for volunteer opportunities online.  That’s how I found FIA.  I think there was a way to send a message or email that I was interested, and after that I signed up for orientation.

Had you been looking for an opportunity to volunteer?

I really was, and I’m so glad I found FIA!

Any “Words of Wisdom” for us?

Gosh no, except maybe “hang in there.”  This is such a strange time we are living in with the COVID-19 Virus. There are many words of wisdom out there during this time.   I just hope everyone is staying as well as possible and doing ok.

Have you lived in the area long? Other places you have lived?

I’ve lived in Bloomington since October 2013.  We moved here from West Lafayette, Indiana.  I’m from Muncie, Indiana and lived and grew up there.

Where did you go to school?

 Purdue University

Jobs/ Careers?

Retail management, State Farm underwriter, & Walgreen’s pharmacy technician, all in Indiana.  I also worked at Grove Street Bakery in Bloomington part time for 3 years until January 2019.

Hobbies/ Past times/ Passions?

I’m attempting to become a better cook.  I signed up for an online cooking class last winter that lasted 3 months.  I had to take pictures of dishes I had prepared for a grade.  It was stressful but learned a lot!

Anything else you’d like to share?

I enjoy walking the dogs, especially this time of year the with weather warming up
