Volunteer Spotlight – Charlene Homan

Charlene Homan has been a Faith in Action volunteer for five years, serving on the Board of Directors. While she has frequently moved, Charlene and her family have made Bloomington-Normal their home, living in their house for 10 years – the longest yet! They hope to make Bloomington their forever home and are members of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Charlene has three grown children with her husband, Chris, and they love to spend quality time cooking together, boating, or just hanging out! By day she works for Best Version Media as a writer and content coordinator for Neighbor’s magazines and is the owner and writer for Touchstone Storytelling, a business she started in 2015. She uses her creative skills in her volunteer role on the marketing committee. When describing why she volunteers Charlene said, “I volunteer at Faith in Action to help make a difference in the lives of local older adults. I interview seniors every week as part of my business in helping families capture their life stories. I’ve learned so many things from each and every client and have come to truly appreciate all the wisdom and experiences they have lived. In some small way by helping FIA, I believe I am giving back to those who trust me to share their stories and leave a legacy for themselves and their families.” Charlene is passionate about using her marketing skills to help others learn about volunteering with FIA because, “FIA provides a very personal way to volunteer and is so flexible. You can get to know an individual by shopping with or for them or by visiting with them through a phone call or in person.”
